Processing Technology Internship

We are looking for a hands-on intern to help unlock yeast oil at scale!

Full-time · HQ

About us

NoPalm Ingredients produces tailor-made yeast oils & fats, made from agri-food waste streams that are perfect substitutes to palm and other vegetable oils in food, cosmetics, and home care products. Our products offer a two-sided solution that reduces both the use of palm oil and food waste.

Founded in 2021, NoPalm Ingredients is on a mission to challenge companies and product manufacturers to implement our local, circular, and sustainable oils as an alternative to palm oil.

By upcycling agri-food side streams into circular yeast oils, we are making a worldwide environmental impact, contributing to a waste-free world, decarbonizing the entire value chain with 90% less greenhouse gas emissions, and limiting the impact on natural habitats as we reduce land-use by 99%.

About the role

NoPalm Ingredients is looking for a motivated student to take ownership of developing a process to disrupt yeast cells and extract oil. You will work at a lab scale to explore pretreatments and disruption conditions, aiming to design a cost-effective and efficient process for large-scale production (kiloton scale).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect and analyze data to discover and optimize oil extraction methods.

  • Develop and test hypotheses based on scientific literature and experimental data.

  • Design, execute, and interpret experiments using lab and pilot-scale equipment.

  • Lead discussions on process improvements, leveraging internal and external expertise.

  • Collaborate closely with technologists across upstream, downstream, and application teams.

About you

We’re looking for a student who combines practical problem-solving skills with a deep understanding of bioprocessing. You thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where priorities shift weekly, and you’re eager to experiment, innovate, and push boundaries. At NoPalm, we believe in working hard and smart, but we also value trust, humor, and teamwork.

You are:

  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s program (WO) in Food Technology, Bioprocess Engineering, or a related field.

  • Experienced in designing, executing, analyzing, and reporting experiments.

  • A creative problem solver who enjoys hands-on lab work and process optimization.

  • Comfortable in a flexible, fast-changing environment.

  • Knowledgeable in proteins, fats, mechanical disruption, and processing technologies.

  • Passionate about biology and fermentation.

  • Proficient in English at a business-professional level.

We value diversity and believe that our team's unique perspectives and experiences makes us stronger. While we may have listed specific requirements for this role, we encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply. We are looking for individuals who are passionate, driven, and excited about the opportunity to join us on our mission. Don't let a lack of exact qualifications hold you back from applying - we are excited to learn more about you and what you can bring to the table!
